President John Dramani Mahama thanking Ghanaians for enduring a challenging time.

Acting in the nation’s best interest is not synonymous with only taking decisions that make one popular”.

This was President John Dramani Mahama’s way of thanking Ghanaians for enduring a challenging time.

Addressing parliament in the 2016 State of the nation address on Thursday, President Mahama thanked Ghanaians for their patience and understanding saying the sacrifices were necessary to put the country back on the path of economic growth.

He said even though it was not easy, he had swore an oath to act in the best interest of Ghanaians and that the many achievements of his government will not have been possible without the support of Ghanaians.

President Mahama said the power problems have had a significant impact on Ghana’s economic growth and described it as a time of considerable national anxiety.

He said “Ghanaians had to sleep in darkness or spend money to fuel generators. Businesses faced challenges, and I expressed my full regret to the nation and I took full responsibility as President and leader of this nation and commander in Chief.

He explained that his government had worked hard to contain unsustainable fuel and electricity subsidy overruns by implementing the automatic price adjustment of petroleum and utility prices which took effect in July and December 2015 respectively.
